With the rapid weather changes over the past few days, the road conditions have been increasingly unpredictable during the daily commute. A few hours ago, ambulances from Community EMS, HealthLink, Beaumont Medical Transportation and DMCare Express were dispatched in response to a mile-long pileup on I-75, involving as many as 35 vehicles and 6 semi trucks. Nine of our ambulances were dispatched to the scene to assist the Detroit Fire Department.
Icy roads near the Rouge River bridge and sudden white-out conditions have been named as contributing factors in this massive accident. The accident occurred shortly after 9:00am on southbound I-75 near Springwells in southwest Detroit.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved in this accident and their families.
