TEMPLE, Texas — (February 6, 2013) Scott & White Emergency Medical Services (EMS) celebrated its move into their new headquarters at 505 North Third Street which was once home to the Temple Fire Department. As a result of growing demand and the expansion of the fleet, Scott & White EMS recognized the need to better facilitate care for the community and its patients.
“Our call volumes and transports have, and continue to, increase each year, so we had to expand our capability to meet that growing demand and prepare for the future,” said Charles Pearson, EMS Director.
The 10,576 square-foot facility was built in 1964 and recently underwent more than $500, 000 in renovations which were completed in January 2013. On January 24, EMS officially moved into the building, which consists of three ambulance bays, a dispatch center, living quarters for EMS personnel, administrative offices, and accommodations for other EMS fleet vehicles.
Renovations also included an education classroom designed to provide constant training to first responders, as well as continuing education courses for medical personnel. Throughout the year, the classroom will be host to various public programs, such as CPR certification, as part of its community outreach efforts.
“This is important to the community because this could be the difference in saving someone’s life,” said Mark Barnes, Clinical Manager. “By having a facility like this to teach life saving measures, it gives the community perspective on what we do and how they can be prepared.”
Scott & White EMS new headquarters comes as a collaborative effort with the City of Temple to help assist strategic growth in the communities that are served by Scott & White hospitals, clinics, and other services. Scott & White EMS has substations in Temple, Salado, Round Rock, and Taylor to dispatch any of its 18 ambulances. Each ambulance is fully equipped and capable of handling any type of medical transport requests.
